Who We Are and What We Do

ADACAS provides free advocacy and information to people in Canberra and on the South Coast of NSW living with disability, experiencing mental ill-health, older persons and their carers. We are an independent human rights organisation. We believe that all people have an equal right to enjoy their human rights.

We assist people with disability living in three Southern NSW areas to access services and supports funded or delivered by the NSW Government.

We provide support to help applicants access the National Redress Scheme and to individuals who are making a submission to the Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability.

Through our Systemic Advocacy we seek to influence Territory and National policies and service delivery to improve the lives of the people we work with.

We develop tools to help people help themselves such as the Supported Decision Making toolkit and provide inclusion training for people working with people with disability within a human rights framework. We also offer Plain English translations.

ADACAS and the Older Persons Advocacy Network

ADACAS is a Foundational Member of the Older Persons Advocacy Network (OPAN). Since 2017 OPAN’s nine state and territory members have worked closely to deliver free advocacy, information and education services to older persons across Australia. OPAN is funded by the Australian Government to deliver the National Aged Care Advocacy Program (NACAP) which supports older people who are receiving or are applying for government-subsidised aged care.
